Balanced Beauties: A Beautiful World with Liz

So you may or may not have noticed that I’ve had a little break from blogging recently. I’ve come to the end of my maternity leave (sob) and I really wanted to spend the last month having a proper bit of time off! It was lovely, but I’m excited to be back, and I’m starting things off with a bang with one of my “Balanced Beauties” posts.

This month I’m featuring the lovely Liz from (the oh so lust worthy) online green beauty shop A Beautiful World. Liz is a bit of a hero to me personally, as she is running her own green beauty business all whilst mothering a gorgeous baby girl. A Beautiful World stocks some of my very favourite beauty products, and now, inspired by the arrival of Liz’s little one, they even has a section especially for children (see my video to find out about just a few of the must have products they offer!) Anyway, without further ado, I introduce….

My name is… Liz McCarthy

I live in… London

Three things that make me happy are… My gorgeous daughter, handbags, that feeling when you open a new beauty product and you just know it’s going to be amazing.

Right now I am thinking… We are in the midst of a green beauty evolution that is about to become a green beauty revolution.

Recently I have been inspired by… Ariana Grande

My favourite meal to cook is… Anything by the Hemsley sisters, just working my way through their latest book The Art of Eating Well

I am currently reading… The Amnesia Clinic by James Scudamore, and to my daughter, The House at Pooh Corner.

Green beauty is important to me because… I think there is a misconception that ‘green beauty’ is a compromise. There is an assumption that organic beauty products are ineffective, and anti-luxury. However, I know this isn’t true, small producers in places as far apart as Brooklyn, Palm Spring and Hackney are creating new and natural beauty products that look just as good and perform just as well (if not better) than the synthetic legacy products, just with none of the bad stuff. No nasties, no man made synthetics. Just beauty without compromise.

I started A Beautiful World because…. After graduating, I worked in advertising on brands such as TRESemme and Simple Skincare. As I travelled the world I began to see the emergence of a new category –  ‘eco-luxe’ beauty. I tried it myself and saw a huge improvement in my skin. I set off on a mission to find the world’s best in natural and organic beauty and bring it to the UK. This is something that continues today, at abeautifulworld we are constantly researching on a global basis to ensure the we bring our customers the very pinnacle of natural and scientific advancement.

My top beauty tip is… Green juice. After living in LA for a while I really saw the benefits of juicing. My skin became brighter and clearer. Now I try to have one every morning.

My beauty essentials are… Argh…to many to name here. I am such a beauty addict myself and my routine is constantly changing. That said I couldn’t ever be without my Dahliana Overnight Fruit Lift, Indie Lee brightening cleanser, Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator, The Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow and The Body Deli Tahitian Vanilla Body Lotion.

Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser

My favourite DIY beauty product is… Homemade Shea butter cream. ¼ cup of SW Basics Shea butter, ¼ cup of cocoa butter, 2 tablespoons of avocado oil. Melt the shea and cocoa butter on the stove, remove, then gently stir in the avocado oil. Then leave to set in your fridge. It makes the most gorgeous, hydrating cream. Perfect for any little dry bit and wonderful for cradle cap on babies.

I am most relaxed when… 10.30am on a Saturday morning when I step into the bustling Chiswick streets after a hot Yoga Session at Bikram Yoga Chiswick.

The best advice I’ve ever been given is… Work hard and be nice to people

My proudest achievement is… My daughter and the handbag collection she is going to inherit.

Thank you so much for taking part Liz. You’ve completely brought back memories of my childhood with the mention of The House at Pooh Corner! I must start reading it to my two.
