My 5 Favourite Natural Products for Curly Hair

So if you didn’t realise already, I’m a bit of a curly girl. I love my curly locks and never straighten them, or blow them out. I just love letting them do their natural thaaang. But I do get a little bit of help from some awesome products. So here’s a quick little round up of my current top 5 favourites!

Alchemy Grapefruit Hair Remedy

My curly hair is drier than the flipping sahara desert, so a pre-wash oil treatment is pretty much essential. My favourite is the Grapefruit Hair Remedy* from Alchemy. This hair oil is the perfect blend of five oils; organic castor oil, coconut oil, organic avocado oil, sweet almond oil and grapefruit white essential oil.  I personally use this one as the castor and grapefruit oils are perfect for keeping your scalp in tip top condition. I often suffer from psoriasis, and although I’m working hard at healing this from within, this hair oil helps to soothe the symptoms on the outside.

Rhassoul Clay

As a no-pooer I’ve flitted from clays, to co-washes, to powders, to gentle cleansers and back again. I found myself reading so much on the subject and really being persuaded by other’s techniques. But at the end of the day, you are the only one who can really figure out what works for your hair. And although many told me not to use rhassoul too often, I just keep coming back to it. On my hair it works wonders, and I get perfect curls every time! I do tend to use it for every other wash, as if I use it every time it can become a little drying. Watch my quick little “How To” on youtube, or read this blog post, to find out how I use it.

Curl Hair Towel

Curl towels are a bit of a new discovery for me, and blimey, I’ve not looked back. Traditional terry towels absorb too much water and ruffle up your hair’s cuticle, this leads to frizzier, tangled hair. Curl towels are made to quickly absorb only excess water, and leave the cuticle intact, meaning more defined curls. Yay! Bouclème’s Curl Towel is made from organic cotton, bamboo, and elasthene and is my personal favourite. For my hair type I find it works best when left on for about 30 minutes, just letting my hair air dry afterwards. However, I would suggest trialling different amounts of time, to find out what works best for you.

Bouclème Curl Cream

Yes another Bouclème product! To be quite honest I’d list them all, but I really could not be without this curl cream*. My dry curls love this product and as it doesn’t weigh them down I do have to be a bit careful not to just pour the entire bottle on my head. It nourishes and defines, softly holding the curls and eliminating any frizz. I honestly have never come across a product for my curly hair that works as well as this one. It’s a staple in my curly hair routine.

If you want to hear what I think of the other Bouclème products do read this blog post!

and last but not least…

Ok so this isn’t a product, but it’s super important. If there is one thing I have learnt from dealing with my hair, it’s that you need to be patient and give it time do do it’s thing. Only then will you get your perfect curls! Spend that little extra time trying no-poo instead of your usual wash routine. Forget blow drying it in a hurry and let it air dry in it’s own time. Space out washes a little.

Also remember, curly hair is a little more work than straight. Don’t expect to be able to buy a few products and find that your job is done. Do your research online. Find what works and what doesn’t. Find a curly hair specialist to cut it!

Give your curly hair your time, and you will reap the (perfectly coiled) rewards!

*These products were kindly given to me as PR samples, but my opinions on them are completely honest and very much my own, as they are for every review I do!
