Review: Thesis Unscented Skincare

Meet Thesis, a family run business that craft and create green, cruelty free and totally vegan beauty products. They use exceptional organic certified ingredients, eco-friendly packaging and hand make each item in small batches. On paper, Thesis sounds like the perfect skincare range for me, so I was so excited to be able to test some of their products for the blog.

Thesis create all sorts of products for face and body, find everything from masks (there’s one called “Chocolatier’s Gift” which I’m sorry, but I REALLY NEED TO TRY) and scrubs, to deodorants and bath salts. I was especially interested in their unscented range – suitable for mum and baby. Even in the green beauty world, I do often find that it’s quite tricky to find family friendly products. I personally prefer not to use essential oils on my boys just yet (who are 15 months, and 3), as I think they are so powerful, and there’s a lot of confusing and conflicting information out there about which oils you should and shouldn’t use for children. I do occasionally use some, but if something is unscented I do generally breathe a sigh of relief as I just don’t even need to worry about it. Phew!

So I’ve been testing the Thesis unscented shower gel, cream, face serum and body oil, all on myself and my boys, read on to see what we thought!

Thesis Shower Gel

I’ll be honest, we just aren’t a shower gel family. We’ve fallen for soap bars and won’t use anything else. The Thesis shower gel was going to have to find a new role in this house, and luckily with natural products, they normally are great multitaskers! My silly sink in my bathroom only has the teeniest space for a hand wash, and we found the perfect bottle for it. I thought I’d set the Thesis shower gel to work by using it to refill my hand wash bottle.

As a hand wash it worked perfectly. You only need the smallest drop, as it’s so concentrated. This can be worked into a very slight lather, which then turns milky as it rinses off. Thankfully unlike some natural soaps, the Thesis shower gel doesn’t strip away all your skins natural oils, and you are left with soft, clean hands.

As this ended up being a bit of a hit, we have even used it a couple of times as a shower gel (GASP!), and although I can’t quite get myself out of the soap bar habit, this is a happy swap…occasionally.

It comes in a plastic bottle, but note that this is recyclable PET plastic, and is also plastic for obvious safety reasons… no one wants smashed glass in their shower.

Ingredients: Saponified Organic Coconut Oil, Saponified Organic Olive Oil, Saponified Organic Jojoba Oil, Natural Vegetable Glycerin, Natural Guar Gum, Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Organic Rosemary Extract

Thesis Cream

The Thesis Unscented Cream is rich and buttery, solid in the jar, but melts beautifully on contact with the skin. A little goes a long way with this one – which I quickly learnt after applying a little to my arm and ending up massaging it into my entire body!! You are left with nourished skin, rather than sticky, meaning that I felt comfortable dressing straight away – a rarity with oiler products. I’ve been using this as a hand cream, really letting it soothe my dry cuticles. It’s perfect for super dry skin, say goodbye to scaley knees and elbows! I’ve used it on my boys, for a little baby massage, and also for sore bottoms – it worked a treat.

I love that it comes in a dark amber glass jar (with a metal lid), meaning that it keeps the product fresh for longer, AND it’s re-usuable, or recyclable.

The ingredients are 100% organic, and seem to be very high quality. As someone that works with oils and butters frequently, I have to say, I am impressed!

Thesis Face Serum

The Thesis Face Serum came to me at what could have been, just the wrong time… I’ve been testing out a million and one face oils, and I’ve pretty much been blown away by them all, so the standard is sky high!! When I noticed the Thesis Face Serum contained sea buckthorn oil, I knew I had to give it a go. (Sea buckthorn oil is one of my favourites – it’s amazing for reducing redness and inflammation, super healing, packed full of antioxidants, fatty acids, minerals, vitamins… I could go on!!). I have to say, this face serum is up there with the best. The rest of the ingredients are wonderfully simple – which is always a plus when you are more sensitive. Only the best cold-pressed, unrefined oils here. It gently sinks into the skin, giving you a silky smoothed face, even textured, with a slightly matte finish. The sea buckthorn oil gives it a slight orangey glow, but this doesn’t remain once you’ve massaged it in. There is no smell, except maybe a hint of something nutty, something warm… just from the base oils.

I love that it comes in a dark amber glass bottle – but why does it need a box? Honestly, I have no idea why brands do this, it seems so unnecessary. I do wonder if it has something to do with being able to show more information? But the ingredients and directions are listed on the bottle anyway, hmm.

Ingredients: Organic cold-pressed Apricot Kernel Oil, Organic cold-pressed Jojoba Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic cold-pressed Grapeseed Oil, Organic Sea Buckthorn Extract, Natural Vitamin E (non-synthetic, GMO-free, Mixed Tocopherols)

Thesis Body Oil

I’ve been using the unscented Thesis Body Oil for massage recently, it’s the perfect base to add a couple of drops of essential oils too. I love this, as it means that you can tailor the oil for every occasion, for every person, it can suit anyone! It’s a beautiful blend of super nourishing, protective, and healing oils. It’s so light and non greasy, but I have to admit, for my body I will reach for the Thesis Cream first. The cream just feels that more luxurious.

I have used the oil on my scalp a handful of times, as I do suffer from psoriasis which can be itchy and painful. I have to say, although it’s not made as a hair oil – it actually did an amazing job. My scalp felt more nourished than it had in ages, and my hair came out of the wash non greasy, just happy!!

The body oil comes in a dark amber glass bottle, which can be reused, and it contains 120ml which I think may last me a lovely long time as it spreads so well!

Ingredients: Organic Soybean Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Macadamia Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Rosehip Oil, Organic Grapeseed Oil, Organic Rosemary Extract

All in all, I am so pleased with these Thesis products. Each one contains wonderful premium ingredients, no fillers, no rubbish, just pure nourishing goodness! Thesis is clearly a company with amazing ethics, thinking about packaging, ingredients and the animals (you won’t find any animal derived products here, Thesis is PETA approved and certified cruelty free and vegan!)

I highly recommend the unscented range, especially if you have little ones about or on the way. But do look at the full range.. Oh I will be buying “Chocolatier’s Gift” – who can resist a name like that?! And if you do want to make a purchase be sure to use the code: “SS10” to get 10% off your Thesis purchase at Blossom and Root – links to each product are highlighted in the text. Happy shopping!

This post was a collaboration with Thesis.  My opinions on them are completely honest and very much my own, as they are for every review I do!
