Review: Khus + Khus Sen Face Serum + Bleu Body Serum

Sasha Seaward

I’ll be honest, me and green beauty have had a little falling out recently. I’ve been getting sick of people scaremongering, naming lists of ingredients that’ll “kill you” and basically assuming that natural = good, synthetic = bad. I’ve been reading more, and more about skin. I’ve been learning about different ingredients. I’ve been thinking, talking, listening to it all. I decided to open up, and try some slightly different ingredients, products and ranges. I tried my first products from The Ordinary. And honestly… my skin has just been getting better and better!

But as one by one my green beauty products got pushed away…. so did some other aspects of my beauty routine. Face oils disappeared and with them went my facial massage routines including gua sha. The moments of peace, the luxuriousness of it all upped and went. My skincare had become a little clinical… and the fun had gone.

Funnily enough, just as I started to realise this, the lovely Liz, from A Beautiful World, contacted me to see if I’d like to review the Khus + Khus Sen Face Serum, and Bleu Body Serum. It couldn’t have come at a better time. In walks this hot damn BEAUTIFUL bottle of oil… and well.. I’ve come crawling back to green beauty. Hmmm, or maybe less of that, and more, I’ve had a realisation that it’s all about balance. Which is in my blooming blog name but I still took my sweet time in realising it. Ha!

Khus + Khus

Khus + Khus has been founded by Kristi Blustein, a herbalist with an incredible knowledge of aromatherapy and Ayurvedic Science. Khus + Khus came to Kristi during her Ayurvedic practise of meditation and Abhyanga (which is self massage). The range is created from the purest botanicals – it’s 100% natural, and 99% organic. Harnessing the power of the plants, the products are made to heal and balance.

The branding is hands down the sexiest I have ever seen. (You can have sexy branding, right?) With simple,  bold design – this is kinda the exact opposite of what would expect after reading about Kristi’s background. But the modern, powerful bottles, hold modern, powerful products – so it completely works when you get to try what’s inside.

I would also like to point out the HUGE size of the products across the range. Yes that’s a whole 200ml for the body serum, and 50ml for the face serum. So while I think we can all agree, they aren’t the most affordable brand on the market, you are getting much more for your money. (From my experience, the average face oil bottle is 30ml, and body oil 100ml).

The Khus + Khus SEN Face Serum was super exciting for me to try as it’s the first facial oil I’ve seen that contains CBD oil. CBD oil being cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive chemical produced by the cannabis plant. CBD has many medical benefits, with studies showing results from it being used to treat pain and inflammation. Users also have reported benefits for anxiety and other mental health issues, as well as epilepsy, Alzheimers, even heart disease. I actually have a few friends that take CBD for anxiety and will endlessly rave about it!

However, when used topically it’s looking like CBD oil will have many benefits for skin too. It’s proven anti-inflammatory effects will be perfect for those with problematic or acne prone skins. And many studies are showing that it can slow oil production. It’s looking like it will be an important ingredient for anti-ageing too! It’s still quite a new ingredient in the skincare world, and I’m really excited to see what else CBD can do for our skin.

Review

The Khus + Khus SEN face serum has a powerful scent… I’m talking P O W E R F U L. Let’s make one thing clear very quickly, if you don’t like lavender, this oil is not for you. Although saying that, this lavender is slightly different than I have ever smelled. It’s beautiful, the quality is incredible. I wouldn’t say I’m the biggest fan of lavender usually. I don’t dislike it, but I am a bit over it. It’s used a lot. But this…. this… is something else. It quickly hits your nervous system, relaxing, soothing you. And to be honest, I could sit and smell this for hours. It’s intoxicating.

The oil quickly sinks into the skin, spreading beautifully. It doesn’t leave any residue or stickiness. It’s actually perfect for my oily skin, as I’m left dewey, rather than oily. And I actually find that even powder foundation will sit on top quite happily – although I would recommend using a primer if you want longer lasting makeup. I would say that as it does sink in so quickly, if you were thinking of doing a long facial massage with it, you might want to use a couple of extra drops of oil.

I’ve seriously enjoyed making the SEN Face Serum part of my evening routine. It’s instantly added the luxury, and the care, back into my beauty regimes. I’ve noticed super glowing skin. It’s hard to know if that’s the face serum, or the massaging, or even just the joy of feeling pampered.

These beautiful ingredients all come together to create a powerful blend, with practically magic healing abilities. Recommend for all skin types, but especially problem skins; irritations, eczema, acne, as well as stretch marks. It’s aromatherapy blend works to soothe, and balance your energy. Releasing anything stagnant. Expect to feel uplifted and totally chill.

Review

The Khus + Khus BLEU Body Serum has really got me into self massage. I don’t usually use many lotions or oils on my body… as to be honest my skin is quite happy as it is (the perks of oilier skin!). But applying the BLEU Body Serum, concentrating on areas of my body, caring for them, and showing them some love and appreciation – has all been quite therapeutic for me!

The beautiful scent of the helichrysum, blue tansy and blue yarrow smells almost edible, sweet and almost playful. I usually wrap my massaged arms around my face, my nose tucked right into my elbows and take in some deeeeep breaths. When I breathe out it feels like everything settles, the rough seas in me become still. As with the SEN Face Serum, the oils in this are just incredible quality. I don’t think I needed my aromatherapy training to notice the difference between this and an oil with lesser quality essential oils. You can just tell.

The texture of the BLEU Body Serum is quite light, and I am still applying this most mornings. The oil doesn’t feel heavy or too much for even the muggy, hot days we have in the UK. I

Like I said earlier, this bottle is BIG. Picking up this beast of an oil, in it’s stunning miron glass bottle, feels special, feels like an absolute treat. It’s one of those products that you want to savour, and use on special occasions… and yet you keep going back for more. I think the oil goes much further than you think, as the 200ml aren’t anywhere nearly gone yet. Thank god, because I don’t quite know what I’m going to do without this. My mornings definitely won’t have the same bliss factor thats for sure.
