Review: Khus + Khus DETOX Hydrolat + Serum
Sasha Seaward
You might recognise these seriously sexy ass bottles from a review I did a while back. And if you’ve read that you’ll already know I’m a pretty big fan of Khus + Khus’s botanical concoctions.
I’ve recently been trying out the Khus + Khus detox serum and hydrolat (gifted from A Beautiful World). And to be honest, these have come at a funny time in my life. Big change has happened, and although it has been good change, I have definitely been going through a grieving process for what was… These beautiful products contain very powerful herbal formulas, with quite intense aromas. So, that alongside the timing of using them, I found that my reaction to these products was quite emotional. So this review might be a little …different than normal. I’m desperately going to try to not get too …out there.. for you guys. But I’m not making any promises! Ha!

The Khus + Khus DETOX hydrolat can be used under or mixed with your serum / face oil. It can also be used throughout the day as a calming, grounding fragrance, or as a little moisturising pick-me-up for dehydrated skin. The rock rose floral water and patchouli plumps the skin - so say goodbye to fine lines. Meanwhile the witch hazel and white grapefruit purify and cleanse the skin. So this hydrolat is a pretty good all rounder to be honest! With benefits for most skin types.
Review…
Ok, let me be frank. While I can see and feel benefits to my skin after using the Khus + Khus DETOX hydrolat. I just cannot get onboard with the fragrance. It’s extremely potent and I do find it a little overwhelming . I am pretty particular when it comes to perfumes, so I’m not entirely surprised, but I am disappointed as I reeeeally wanted to like it. From reading other reviews online, it does seem like I’m in the minority, with many feeling almost addicted to the earthy rock rose scent. But it’s just not me.

Review
At first, similarly to the hydrolat I just did not like the fragrance of the Khus + Khus DETOX serum, it was too strong for me, too heady. BUT something happened after using it for a few days. I’m not entirely sure what! But for some reason I started becoming so drawn to the deep, warm aroma of the oils. This is where the magic of aromatherapy comes in. Sometimes using these blends you can create a real spiritual experience. My daily little skincare ritual became so special and precious. The fragrance slowed me down, made me so mindful whilst massaging my face and neck. I concentrated on each touch and movement, each breath in and out. It felt like I was bringing peace and light in, and releasing tension and negativity.
Like I mentioned, I started using this oil at quite an emotional time in my life and I’ve now really connected the scent to this time. Not in a negative way at all though. It reminds me of the quiet it gave me. The absolute beauty and stillness of those moments, which were so, so needed amongst all the.. well.. lets be honest, utter shit that was going on! So now when I do use it, I feel a bit of a lump in my throat. I also feel so thankful for the therapeutic, restorative powers of nature, and thankful for Khus + Khus, for creating such stunning blends.
I was very lucky to have these gifted to me from A Beautiful World. All words are my own.
